We are a research group at University of Missouri (MU) that studies opportunistic discovery of information (ODI) by integrating research perspectives from library and information science, media psychology, information systems, and computer science. Our work is supported by the Mizzou Advantage strategic initiative that promotes innovative research activities at MU.

Sanda Erdelez is an Associate Professor at the School of Information Science and Learning Technologies and the founder of Information Experience Laboratory. Her research focuses on human information behavior, especially information encountering. She has been funded by SBC Communication, Dell and NSF and the co-editor of Theories of Information Behavior (Information Today, 2005).
Guilherme N. DeSouza is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department and the founder of the Vision-Guided Intelligent Robotics Lab (ViGIR) at MU. His research interests include: Robotic Vision, Human Robot Interaction, Visual Sensor Networks, 3D Modelling and Object/Pattern Recognition.
Chi-Ren Shyu is Director of University of Missouri Informatics Institute and holds the Shumaker Professorship in Engineering. His research interests are in the areas of biomedical informatics, personalized medicine, and data mining.He is recepient of Engineering Faculty Research Award, NSF CAREER Award and his work has been funded by NSF and NIH.
Antonie Stam is the Leggett & Platt Distinguished Professor of Management Information Systems in the Management Department, and co-Director of the MU Center for the Digital Globe. He holds a PhD in Management Science from the University of Kansas and has served as a Visiting Professor and Research Scientist in Belgium, Austria, Finland, France, Italy, South Africa and Spain. His research interests include information systems, decision support systems, applied artificial intelligence, multicriteria decision making and applied statistics.
Kevin Wise is an AssociateProfessor of strategic communication and co-director of the Psychological Research on Information and Media Effects (PRIME <http://primelab.missouri.edu/> ) Lab at the MU School of Journalism. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University and his doctorate from Stanford University. His research explores how different features of online media affect cognition and emotion.
Borchuluun Yadamsren is a research associate of the ODI project. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from Novosibirk State Technical University. She received her master’s degree in journalism and her doctorate from University of Missouri. Her research explores how technology affect information behavior of users with focus on online news consumers.
